Boat Mishap: 4 Drown, 1 Rescued In Katsina



A boat mishap in Malumsfashi Dam, Katsina State, has claimed lives of four teenage girls, while the fifth girl cheated death by whiskers, witness said yesterday.

A farmer, who was one of those that rescued the lone survivor in the capsized boat, said the victims were from Unguwar Dan-Zango in neighbouring Kankara local government area of the state that usually buy vegetables across the dam in Mashigi village near Malumfashi town for sales.

“After buying the vegetables, on their way back, the boat conveying the girls capsized killing four of the teenage girls but one was rescued,” the resident of Malumfashi, who sought anonymity, said.

The spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, Superintendent Isah Gambo, could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.
