The Umbrella Force, a group within the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has thrown its weight behind the candidature of Prof Kolapo Olushola Oke, ahead of the July 14, Ekiti State governorship election.
The group also called on Prof Eleka Campaign Organisation to ensure an all-inclusive platform by giving stakeholders a sense of belonging, in his campaign and tour around the state.
Oluyemi Fasipe, media director of the Umbrella Force, in the PDP, said the call became necessary, going by the antics of opposition in the state which is ‘desperate’ at gaining back power from the incumbent, by every means.
Fasipe, who spoke to journalists on Friday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, also raised alarm over the cloning of the Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, and alleged plans of disenfranchising electorates, during the next Saturday elections.
He stated that a win for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is certain in Ekiti State as the umbrella party is widely accepted among the people and electorates of the state.
According to Fasipe, there is a need for genuine cooperation among members of Pro PDP – online group ahead of the July 14 gubernatorial poll in order to show more support for the ruling party in Ekiti State.
“You recall that Ekiti is the only PDP state in the entire southwest since Governor Ayodele Fayose defeated the Fayemi-led APC government in 2014. So, all hands must be on deck, to make sure the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) emerges victorious in the election because a win for Prof Kolapo Eleka, is a win for the PDP as a whole.
“We therefore propose Wednesday 11 – Friday 13 July, 2018, as the days set aside for all the online campaigns by all Pro-PDP groups on their various platforms with the hashtag, #EkitiIsPDP.
“We also call on our members to give very close monitoring and reporting to the Saturday July 14, 2018, to the governorship election with the same hashtag, #EkitiIsPDP. As we warn against complacency and over confidence ahead of the exercise, we are asking our members to be vigilant and shine their eyes.”
The group advised the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain an unbiased umpire by conducting a credible and transparent election in Ekiti State.
