A cleric, Pastor Akeem Idoniboye, has urged Christians in the country to participate in active partisan politics by seeking for elective political positions in the 2019 general elections in order to advance the kingdom of God.
He said Christians who has ruled Nigeria since 1999, including Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan did not implement policies and programmes that would advance the Christianity and the kingdom of God will they were in office.
Idoniboye, who is the Lead Pastor of the Glorious Destiny Family Church, spoke yesterday while preaching at the Church’s auditorium in Borokiri, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Describing politics and government as one of the seven mountains in life, the Cleric advised Christians to stop seeing politics as a dirty game, saying it is those involved in it that are dirty.
He said, “There are seven mountains in life according to Revelation 17:9 and number one mountain is Politics or Government. Except God’s people rise up to take over government; to take over politics, some heathens will seat in the helm of affairs and mess us up.
“Politics is not a dirty game, it is the men who play the politics that are dirty. There is no profession in its sense that is dirty; their is not chosen profession in its sense that is dirty. Even in the ministry, there are dirty people.
“You cannot take because of few riff-raffs that ran into politics to mess up and now say, politics is a dirty game, no. Politics is too serious a business for us, Church folks to leave for the heathens. If we leave if for the heathens, one day they will close up the Churches. It is one of the mountains God’s people must take over.
“You are in Church, go and stand for election. Show your face. Join PDP, join APC, join Labour Party. I am not advertising any particular political party but join any party. There is no political party that is bad. All the parties are vehicles to get to the throne.”
Idoniboye said Obasanjo and Jonathan failed to promote the course of Christianity and the kingdom of God while they were in power because they were not part of the kingdom.
The cleric said “In almost 20 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria, we have had more Christians rule the country than Muslims. Yar’adua ruled for few years and died and now, President Buhari is just three years in office. So the Christians had more time. Obasanjo was a Christian, Jonathan was a Christian. They didn’t pursue kingdom agenda because they were not part of the kingdom.
“The kingdom of God is not a place; anywhere you are, the kingdom is operational and in force. The kingdom is anywhere the will of God prevails. The kingdom is anywhere under the influence of God. The kingdom is anywhere you see God’s system of government. So, the Church is a manifestation of God’s kingdom. The kingdom is God’s way of doing things and his patterns.”
