An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Monday remanded Ropo Awotide, 25, in prison custody, following allegation of stabbing a man with knife on the head. Magistrate Ishola Omisade ordered that the accused should be remanded at Ile-Ife Prison pending the consideration of his bail. Omisade refused the accused bail following objection by the prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi.
The magistrate adjourned the case until July 11 and directed that the case be transferred to Court 2 for trial. Abdullahi told the court that Awotide had jumped bail in a sister court where he is facing trial over offence of assault with occasioning harm. The prosecutor said that the current offence over which the accused was arraigned was committed on June 26 at 10.00p.m at Akinrefon Street, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the accused unlawfully assaulted Olusegun Olafare by stabbing him with a knife on the head, which caused him harm. He added that the accused also assaulted Damilola Olafare by giving her blows with his fist. According to him, the offence contravened Sections 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and causing grievous injury to the complainant.
