The All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has warned those planning to forment trouble during Saturday’s election to leave the state “in their own interest.”
The former minister of Mines and Steel Development also said that if elected governor, he will get a moratorium of six months to clear the backlog of salaries owed workers between six and nine months.
He warned that whoever is plotting to prevent eligible voters from exercising their civic rights at the poll will be arrested and made to face “the full weight of the law.”
The APC candidate, who said intelligence has revealed that some individuals are sewing uniforms of the Department of State Services, DSS, Army and Police to be used illegally at the election, assured that adequate and maximum security is guaranteed on Saturday, adding that there is no cause for fear and apprehension at the election.
Fayemi’s warning came on the heels of the alleged arrival of suspected militants and hoodlums reportedly camped in secret locations in the state ahead of the election.
Speaking in a special interview programme on Voice 89.9FM, monitored in Ado Ekiti at the weekend, Fayemi said Ekiti found itself in this sorry state because of “unseriousness in governance.”
The former governor said Governor Ayo Fayose has been fortunate to have received many financial reliefs from the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, hence he has no reason to be owing workers.
He listed the financial lifelines to include first tranche of bailout cash of N4 billion, second tranche of bailout of N8.9 billion, Paris Club Debt refund cash twice, Budget Support Fund of N1.3 billion for thirteen months, among others.
Fayemi said that he is in the race again for the state’s number one seat “to rescue Ekiti from its arrested development” and put an end to the hardship being experienced by the people.
He said, “I want to assure prospective voters that Ekiti will be safe, it will be secured, there will be maximum security for this election.
“Our people should go about their businesses in peace and they should not be threatened. They should not feel harassed by all we are hearing from those who don’t want free and fair electoral process.
“We are aware (of this) and every information that we get, we pass to security agencies. I will like to advise those busybodies who have found their way into Ekiti to leave our state.
“In your interest, leave unannounced before the election because you will face very severe punishment.”
