1550 NLS’s Successful Candidates Called To Bar

About 1550 successful candidates of the Nigerian Law School (NLS) were called to bar by the Body of Benchers and the Council of Legal Education, yesterday, at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

While addressing the new wigs, who have been officially commissioned into legal profession, the Chairman, Body of Benchers, the body with the highest distinction in the legal profession in Nigeria as well as that which has the sole statutory responsibility of admitting qualified persons into the legal profession in Nigeria, Alhaji Bashir M. Dalhatu charged the new barristers on Honesty and Integrity,describing it as the hallmarks of the legal profession.

“Integrity is telling yourself the truth being guided by your conscience, while honesty is telling the truth to other people without fear or favour. A lawyer should always be known for his honesty, integrity, sanctity, objectivity and respect for the Rule of Law”.

“My advice for you is to at all times, Shun all vices that are likely to dent your image as well as the image of the profession. Do not form the habit of bending the truth, or watering it down to sound logical with the aim of pleasing your listeners, he admonished”.

In his address, the Director General NLS, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma who congratulated the successful candidates from NLS, he said that the school has contributed in the training of an entire arm of government.

He said they are presently working hard with Law Faculties and other stakeholders to address the complaints from the profession on the low quality of lawyers through Aggressive Review of Curriculum to include Teaching Ethics, Legal Writing as well as Teaching Methodology and Method of Assessment.
