NUJ Secures TV Licence

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has granted the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) licence to float a television station. The NUJ president, Alh Waheed Odusile who disclosed this in Ilorin, Kwara State said the station has been christened as ‘Fair Press TV’.Odusile was in Ilorin to commission a new block of class rooms of the Kwara NUJ  model school.
The project, located within the premises of NUJ Press Centre (Abubakar Olusola Saraki Pen House), Offa Road Extension, GRA Ilorin, was initiated and completed by the immediate past administration of Abiodun AbdulKareem led executive with crèche and a nursery facilities.
While the crèche section is expected to start operation immediately, the nursery section is expected to start in the next academic session. Commissioning the school project, Odusile who expressed delight over the initiative, said the project was worthwhile and encourage other councils to emulate Kwara council. He charged the leadership of  Kwara State chapter  of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to encourage members to patronise the facilities, saying the “project must not die”. The NUJ president who also admitted the first child of a member of NAWOJ from the state’s ministry Information into the crèche facility, observed that the environment was “safe “for their children and also conducive for teaching and learning.
In his remarks, former chairman of the council, Abiodun AbdulKareem said the project was self financed by members through personal contributions and supports from some friends of the council.
He said the plan of the council was to also start the secondary school section at the Journalists’ Estate, Kulende/ Ganiki area, Ilorin.
The NUJ chairman in the state, Umar Abdulwahab, said the council under his administration will consolidate on the successes recorded on the project by ensuring the takeoff of the nursery section by September this year.
He urged members of the council to key into the project to ensure its sustainability.
