No fewer than 32 persons have been confirmed dead after suspected gunmen displaced about six communities of Rabbah local government area of Sokoto State.
The gunmen, who were said to have struck the villages in a war-like manner, were armed to the teeth with highly sophisticated weapons as disclosed by a survivor.
According to him, the gunmen came in large numbers attacking Gandi, Tabanni, Gidan Barebari, Akuzo, Dankilawa, Buronga among others. By the time the attackers left, scores were dead and many more injured in the once peaceful local government.
He also revealed that the gunmen were rustlers whose mission were to cause havoc, maim, steal, and send panic in affected and nearby communities.
“It was a horrible sight to behold. The attackers were very merciless. They shot at any object in sight. They equally set houses ablaze making it difficult for people to escape unhurt,” he said in tears.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday, attended the burial of the 32 persons slain by the gunmen in Rabbah local government area of the state.
Tambuwal, while expressing worries over the unfortunate incident, supplied relief materials to over a thousand displaced persons currently taking refuge at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp situated at Gandi Model Primary School in Gandi town of the local government area.
The governor, who assured of continued support to security agencies in the state towards tackling future occurrences, said that, he was deeply touched by the ugly scenario.
