The city of Calabar, the Cross River State capital was on Tuesday thrown into mourning when an alleged drunken police officer known as Sergeant Nkanu, shot and killed 32 years old, Victoria Ekpe.
The incident occurred barely two weeks after the death of a female Youth Corps member who was reportedly shot dead by a policeman in Abuja.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the officer shot her at a very close range at Ikot Ansa in Calabar Municipality local government area of the state.
When our correspondent visited the family of the deceased at No. 11 Joseph Mkpa Street, Ikot Ansa Community, the atmosphere was gloom as the people wore long face.
“How could this police officer do this to our daughter whom we know is a peaceful girl” one of the family members, Esther cried with tears rolling down her cheeks.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the suspect, an indigene of Abi local government area of Cross River State, allegedly returned home on that fateful day drunk from a party at about 8.30 pm with a locally made pistol in his pocket.
