The current Secretary to the State government and one of the governorship aspirants on the platform of governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Moshood Adeoti, has voiced out his doubt about the victory of the party ahead of September 22 gubernatorial election in Osun State if it violates conventional rule of zoning.
Adeoti, who hails from Iwo Local government area of Osun West Senatorial district in the state also said that the story being bandied of an ‘anointed candidate’ was far from the truth even as he argued that APC may get it wrong if that should be the case.
He stated this at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists about the raging zoning controversy and the alleged endorsement of Chief of Staff to the governor, Adegboyega Oyetola by incumbent governor in the State, Rauf Aregbesola.
“Let me tell you, I am hearing that for the first time. I am saying it emphatically that if that one should happen in that state, may God forbid bad thing, we are going to get it wrong. Simply because of the fact that even, when they are saying that there is no zoning in our constitution, I believe that indirectly, we have zoning.
“When we started in 1999, it was Baba Akande that spent four years there from Osun Central Senatorial district and when Oyinlola took over from the same Osun Central Senatorial district, it was because both of them came from different constituencies. Baba Akande came from Ila Federal constituency, Oyinlola came from Ifelodun/Boripe/ Odo-Otin local government.
“But both of them were from central. If their terms are put together, they spent eleven and half years, and the person on board, who is going to step down on the 27th of November happens to have come from Osun East Senatorial district after eight years and you still say another person from Osun Central is going to take the seat, what would then be the fate of people from the West senatorial district where I come from?”
Earlier, the Chief of Staff, Oyetola at a brief chat with newsmen had earlier dismissed insinuations that he has been anointed by governor Rauf Aregbesola, saying he wouldn’t have bothered to campaign if he had truly been endorsed as being speculated in various quarters.
The SSG, however, said that he is the most qualified and popular aspirant in the state, adding nothing can stop him from winning the general election if he gets the ticket of the party.
He said, “That one put aside, you go there, go and make a pilot survey, you will find out there that people are there for us apart from what people are saying that the thing should go to the West, go and find out who is the popular candidate out of all, they will tell it is a current Secretary to the state government, in person of Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti.”
