The wife of Kebbi State governor, Dr Zainab Atiku Bagudu, has flagged off free distribution of micro nutrients to children in the state.
The programme is in collaboration with UNICEF Field Office Sokoto and Federal Ministry of Health took place at the Kebbi State School of Nursing yesterday.
She said the programme was designed to improve infant and young children feeding (IYCF) for children between 6 to 23 months in the state.
Dr Zainab expressed immense gratitude to UNICEF, Federal Ministry of Health and other international development partners for their continued support and contributions to the Kebbi State health sector.
“Kebbi State government has a bilateral agreement with EUMNCH-IN,UNICEF to continue partnership towards improving the survival, development, protection and participation of Kebbi State children and women through various programmes interventions developed for the purpose”, she said.
She assured that the Kebbi State government will assiduously work with international partners to reduce the poor health indices by effectively organising and managing health service to meet health needs of people.
In his remarks at the occasion representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr John Uruakpe said the programme is being implemented in Adamawa, and Kebbi but Borno and Yobe States were included as a result of insurgency in the area . According to him , malnutrition is at alarming rate in the world and Nigeria is among the worst countries facing the problem of malnourished children.
“In Kebbi 3 LGAs are involved, they are Birnin Kebbi ,Jega and Danko Wasagu”, he said.
