Senate yesterday condemned in strong terms the killing of 40 persons at Dogon-yero in Gandi district of Raba local government area of Sokoto State.
The lawmakers, who described the killings as gruesome, have commenced serious probe into the killings and assured that security agencies must apprehend the culprits.
Specifically, Senate urged the federal government to mandate Air Force, and the police helicopter division to carry out aerial surveillance in affected states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi to identify locations and hideouts of the killers.
Because of this, Senate has urged the Inspector General of Police to quickly detail a special squad to go to the affected communities and get rid of the armed bandits.
Also, it called for synergy between the DSS, the Police and the Armed Forces towards arresting the culprits.
To ameliorate the suffering of the displaced persons, Senate has asked National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to quickly send emergency relief materials to the affected communities.
Senate’s resolution followed a motion by Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) and Aliyu Wamako (Sokoto North).
According to them, the armed bandits are operating in a Zamfara forest where they have carried out nefarious and barbaric killings of innocent people over a period of two years.
