A political group under the auspices of Grass-root Forum for Good Governance (GFGG) has called on Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, to return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The statement which was captioned: “Benue Youths Welcome Governor Ortom Back to PDP,” was jointly signed by the chairman and secretary of the group, David Onoja and Terver Agundu after an executive meeting. In the statement, the group said that the governor’s leadership qualities, especially in the area of disaster management, is worthy of note.

The statement averred that the alertness and proactive way in which the governor approached disaster in the state has saved many lives, property and pervasive suffering that would have befallen the people of the state. It said this effort is appreciable and worthy of applause.

The statement also noted that, following the uncharitable clamour of his replacement by some stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the group is welcoming him back to the PDP, stressing that the many criticism against the governor is unwarranted and misguided.

“The governor’s leadership qualities especially in the area of disaster management is worthy of note. The alertness and responsiveness, with which he approached disaster responsibilities has saved many lives and property and thus, averted the pervasive suffering that would have befallen our people. This effort is appreciable and worthy of applause.

“Provision of relief materials such as temporary accommodation, food and clothes for displaced persons even in the midst of limited resources and almost near zero assistance from the federal government, is a gesture that is worthy of applause.”

The group, however, endorsed Ortom for second term in office and promised to mobilise people en-mass to support his ambition as a pay-back for his defense for the people of Benue and his good works.

They also called on the governor to be bold and courageous and fear no intimidation from any person, group or party. The group also condemn every form of reprisal attack and called youths to report any security situation to the appropriate authorities.
