A Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has banned their women from selling cow milk (Nono) on the street, saying that the action is to protect them from danger and against their tradition.
National president of the association, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, made this known during a meeting of Fulani leaders and other stakeholders at Maliya Cattle Market in Tudun-Wada, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Bodejo, said that all Fulani leaders should ensure they comply with the law so that Fulanis can be able to go back to their culture and tradition.
“This law of banning our women from hawking ‘Nono’ on the street, is made to protect them from danger. Many of our women have been victims of kidnapping and rape due to this street trading.
“Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, is setting up a committee that would go round the country to ensure that the law is complied with. Every Fulani woman should take their ‘Nono’ to the market or wherever they are selling and station in one place for customers to come and buy, not to be on the street which would cause danger for them,” Bodejo said.
The Fulani leaders added that the law is not restricted to women alone, but also on Fulani youths that engage themselves in drugs, saying that the committee would fetch them out and hand them over to the appropriate authority.
Speaking in the same vein, chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders of Nigeria Nasarawa State Chapter (MACBAN), Alahji Mohammed Hussaini, commended the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore for the action, saying that it was as a result of this street trading, that Fulanis have bastards that always cause them to have bad names, like they are facing today.
He said, “We want our women to follow our culture and tradition of selling ‘Nono’ for people, not on the street, they should station in one particular place to sell it. Also, the law should be extended to our youths,” he stressed.
The meeting, was attended by all Ardos across the country, humanitarian organisations, women and stakeholders and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore chairmen from 36 states, including Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
