Ihedioha Knocks Okorocha Over Plan To Impeach Deputy

The immediate past deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has condemned the impeachment process on the Imo State deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere, by the state House of Assembly, saying that the action poses serious danger to the nation’s democracy.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Owerri, Ihedioha, alleged that the impeachment process being carried out by the state House of Assembly, which began on Tuesday, was clearly on the directive of the state governor, Rochas Okorocha.

He regretted that the sin, which Madumere committed in the eyes of Okorocha, was his (Madumere’s) interest to contest for the governorship election in the state, which is contrary to Okorocha’s preference of his in-law, Hon Uche Nwosu.

“This unfortunate development is particularly alarming and indeed worrisome to all advocates and defenders of democracy and the rule of law.”

“It is therefore incontrovertible that this move, being undertaken by Governor Okorocha and the Imo House of Assembly, is a colossal assault on all known democratic tenets, including freedom of choice, freedom of association and the right of an individual to aspire to any political position in the land.

“The present, unfathomable and inherent danger lies in the manner Governor Okorocha is wheedling the state lawmakers to plunder the mandate of the people on flimsy, narrow-minded and self-centered basis, contrary to the prescriptions of the relevant sections of the Constitution”, Ihedioha stressed.
