The leadership and members of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has congratulated the former minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on his resounding victory in the 14th July 2018 Ekiti State governorship election, asking the governor-elect to be magnanimous in victory.
The party in a statement by the UPP, national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie, said Fayemi’s victory is sweet music in the ears of all lovers of democracy in Nigeria, adding that the “people of Ekiti State have spoken in your favour and entrusted you with their mandate to oversee their welfare and development in the next four years, in continuation of your purposeful leadership during your first tenure in office”.
The party said that it is common saying that to whom much is given much is expected, noting that the good people of Ekiti State expect real positive change in their social, political and economic life.
“You displayed admirable candor, gallantry and sportsmanship when you lost in the election for your second term in office. Now that the good people of Ekiti State have in a very resounding majority votes renewed your mandate to resume the governance of the state, it is expected that you will be magnanimous in victory,” the party added.
