At least 12 persons were confirmed dead and several others injured as a Lagos mass transit train yesterday, collided with a commercial bus that was parked close to railway crossing at Agege area of Lagos.
It was gathered that most of the victims affected hung on the locomotive engine while others sat atop the coaches when the accident happened in the early hours of yesterday.
Eye witnesses told our correspondent that while some of the deceased fell on the rail line and were crushed by the moving train, others fell under the bus and so lost some body parts.
Irked by the accident, hoodlums it was gathered, set the commercial bus ablaze while sympatisers rushed the injured to a nearby general hospital at Orile-Agege area of Lagos State.
Confirming the accident, general manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Adesina Tiamiyu, said the wreckage of the burnt bus was immediately removed from the scene.
He advised commuters to stop hanging on the locomotive engines and roof of coaches.
