Gov Ayade Lauds Senator Oko’s Empowerment Scheme



The Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade  has commended the Senator representing Cross River north Senator Rose Oko on her continuous empowerment programmes  in a bid to reduce the unemploymentent rate in the state.
Ayade gave the commendation at the weekend during the senator’s 2018 empowerment programme at Ogoja stadium in Cross River State. He also endorsed her 2019 reelection bid.
The governor said he is aware that the senator, who represents Northern senatorial district at the National Assembly  has introduced different empowerment programmes to reduce unemployment among women and youths and improve on their economy.
Also speaking, former minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, while commending the Senator on her outstanding performance, called on other stakeholders to continue to support good work.
Dignitaries who graces the occasion include former governor of Cross River State, Sen Liyel Imoke, former deputy governor Barr Ifiok Cobham, state PDP chapter chairman Mr Edim Inok, paramount rulers of Yala and Obudu LGAs, HRH Ogamode Ipuole and HRH Jeddy  respectively among others.
Earlier, Senator Oko who lauded her constituents for giving her the mandate to represent them at the upper chamber, assured them of her continuous engagements in the house to serve them better if given another mandate in 2019.
Oko who donated 13 vehicles, 54 motorcycle, 27 keke napep, and a complete set of rice mill equipments and groundnut sheller to Bekwara, at the weekend, explained that since she got into the Senate, she has been able to achieve number of things; which include medical outreach programme where about 80 surgeries were conducted.
According to her, the empowerment is an initiative which women and  youths can utilize to become gainfully employed as well as become employers of labour.
“Between 2016 and 2017 I distributed science equipments, books and desks to about 34 schools across Cross River north. And i was able to donate equipments worth N40 million to three hospitals across the senatorial districts.
“We have also completed construction of nine school blocks and attracted two more. Between 2015 and 2017, we constructed six classroom blocks. So in the three years that I have been in the senate, we have done a total of fifteen classroom blocks across Cross River north.
“Presently, we have eight hundred bags of fertilizers for our farmers, groundnut oil mill, with 47 grinding machines for groundnut oil, we also have provided some grants for about a hundred and twenty-two young men and women across the board,” she added.
The People’s Democratic Party Chairman, Edim Inok, Cross River State, also commended the Senator on developmental strides.
“The work of a legislator is to sponsor bills on the floor of the senate and of the parliament and she has done it. We in PDP have endorsed her back,” he said
