The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, on National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office, NASSCO, Maryam Uwais has revealed that the office is partnering with the state governments in order to ensure that the targeted population is reached.

Uwais disclosed this yesterday, at a one-day sensitisation workshop on the activities of NASSCO in Abuja.

She said that participants were drawn from the 36 states of the federation

including the Federal Capital Territory, Directors of various MDAs, international donors, media, CSOs among others.

“This is meant to acquaint them with the responsibility in building the National Social Register of the poor and vulnerable household in Nigeria.”

Uwais explained that the programme was designed in 2016, with the intent to direct national resources to enhance the living standard of Nigerians, especially, the poor.

She said over the last three years, the office has been able to reduce poverty through various programmes, including school feeding programme.

“We are not implementing the programmes directly but the state government appoints the state’s and local governments head. This is meant to acquaint them with the responsibility in building the National Social Register of the poor and vulnerable household in Nigeria,” she said.
