Police Confirm 7 Worshippers Dead In Borno Suicide Bomb Attack



The police has confirmed seven worshippers dead while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries when a male suicide bomber penetrated Goni Modu mosque in Mainari area of Konduga in Konduga local government area of Borno state.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Maiduguri, the Borno state Commissioner of police,  Mr Damian Chukwu said the incident occurred at the early hours of yesterday when the male suicide bomber took advantage of gathering of worshippers , made his his way to the mosque, and detonated the improvised explosive device ( IED) strapped to his body killing himself, 7 Worshippers and injured 7 others.

Chukwu said the injured have been evacuated to the general hospital in the area for medical attention while the corpses were equally cleared.

“ The report we heard now is that they have sanitized the environment ,and normalcy returned,” he said

Similarly, CP Chukwu in his briefing, further said police killed two Boko Haram terrorists and arrested two while five others fled during an encounter with the insurgents at Nganzai local government area of Borno state last Saturday.

Parading the two arrested Boko Haram suspects, Babagana Mohammed and Abba Goni Saleh before newsmen, Chukwu noted the the terrorists were engaged by the police with the support of the Civilian Joint Taskforce ( CJTF) and local hunters in Galte village , about 4km from Gajram, the headquaters of Nganzai local government area.

“In the encounter, two of the terrorists were killed, two were arrested while five others escaped. Four AK47 rifles were recovered from the insurgents.

“On interrogation,the suspects confessed that they came from the Sambisa forest on a mission to rustle cows on the order of their commander, Bakura Bulama now deceased(body recovered by police) .

“They further confessed that they left Sambisa forest armed with five AK47 rifles  on foot  on same day at about 2am and arrived Galte village at about 4am where they met the encounter.

“Suspects killed in the gun battle are Bakura Bulama – Commander  and Ubaida Bama.Investigations so far revealed the following as the suspects at large: Baba Mai Goro, Abba Ngumuri , Mamman Dikwa and Adam Dikwa. Exhibits recovered are four AK47 rifles, 1970k .2673 with 22 rounds of live ammunition.

“ There was no casualty on the side of the police. However, a CJTF Commander, one Mohammed Umar was shot on the left hand.He is responding to treatment.The arrested terrorists are helping the police with  investigation while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing terrorists,” said CP Damian Chukwu.
