President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Dr Idris Omede has called on the federal government to facilitate joint partnership between relevant Nigerian and foreign companies on huge infrastructure projects due to its large capital outflow even as he lamented the exclusion of Nigerian companies in the Mambilla power dam project.
Omede who stated this while addressing the media during the APBN board meeting at Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) headquarters Abuja, disclosed that integration of Nigerian companies is another means of growing the system.
He stated that the partnership would encourage more disciplined professional collaboration between local and foreign companies on a variety of projects such as transportation, aviation, environment and health and among other sectors.
Omede said that the 3,050 megawatts power project with four dams, transmission lines and road network over a large span of land was awarded in 2017, with a completion time of six years.
The president hinted that the power plant funded 15 and 85 percent by Nigeria and China respectively its a laudable project that would enhance growth and development through creative industry, economic ventures, tourism and job creation when completed.
On his part, the president of NSE, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu who hosted the board meeting said that NSE has effectively served as a veritable platform for the promotion and maintenance of high standard engineering study and practise, thereby promoting sustainable development and growth.
He noted that the roles played by professionals in the Nigerian economy are distinct and progressive adding that NSE strongly believe in joining forces with other professionals to articulate common position on issues of public interest, hence its membership of APBN.
Mokuolu maintained that Nigeria’s human and material resources would be better managed if more professionals occupied the policy space.
