Police Parade Kidnappers, Robbers, Cultists In Edo

Edo State Police  command yesterday paraded 47 suspected criminals alleged to be  involved in armed robbery, murder, cultism, including a 35 years old  Pastor engaged in kidnapping.

The command also paraded the lifeless body  of an armed robber killed by men of the command along the Benin-Lagos express way by Ogbemudia farm.

Also displayed before newsmen were various range of arms and ammunitions recovered from the criminals.

Edo State Police commissioner, Johnson Kokumo, while briefing newsmen said reinterated the command readiness to rid the state of criminal elements and also urged members of the public to be vigilant.

Meanwhile, the kidnapper Pastor, Kenneth Okafor, an ex-convict narrated that he was lured into kidnapping because of his desire to raise money to cater for his blind father’s medical bill by  one Mathew he met in prison in 2015.

Okafor, who is an assistant Pastor with Jesus Favor Ministry Church at Ugbiyokho in Benin said his Church members never knew about his criminal past adding that even the general overseer was also an ex-armed robber.

Okafor narrated: “It is unfortunate, I was a  victim of circumstances because I needed money to help my blind father.  I really wanted to raise money to take him to an eye clinic for treatment. So I told my friend that I needed assistance.

“One day,  my friend called me to meet him at Mobil filling station at ring road. When I got there I saw him with two other people in a Camry car. They said since I needed money I should join them to go and kidnap someone at Oluku.

Immediately I entered the car they showed me guns so I had to join them.

He however said he was not involved in the negotiation of ransom and was not given any money before he was arrested by the police.
