The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has begun the rehabilitation of dilapidated Gwagwalada township road, leading to the  University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), in the area.

Speaking when he supervised the level of work on the road, FERMA engineer, in-charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Omameh

Ambrose, disclosed that the project, which is being executed through direct labour, is expected to last two weeks. Ambrose, who reiterated the agency’s commitment to maintain roads across the FCT, also revealed that the FERMA has commenced the first segment of the rehabilitation from SDP Junction, to the teaching hospital.

He explained that FERMA has deemed it fit to rehabilitate the road, because it links the FCT to Niger State, through Gwagwalada and Izom.

The FERMA boss appealed to motorists to exercise patient while  approaching traffic signs and diversions, adding that they were created temporarily with a view to making the rehabilitation work faster.

Ambrose warned FCT residents against cutting of road to lay pipes without seeking permission from relevant government agencies, just as  he cautioned residents against blocking of drainage systems, through indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

Some motorists interviewed tasked the agency to sustain the gesture, noting that the rehabilitation work would in no small measure prevent continuous deterioration of some sections of road, as well as serve as erosion control measures.
