Unprecedented crowd from across the 23 local governments of the state yesterday gathered at the Sokoto Government House to formally receive governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The crowd which consist of APC party faithful and those of PDP in the state started trooping into the state metropolis a day before the D.Day.
Sokoto’s Government House, venue of the declaration was full to its brim as early as 7am.
The crowd waited patiently for Tambuwal till about 12 noon before he finally climbed the Gate of the Government House to speak on reasons behind his decision.
Said Tambuwal, “I stand before you with a heavy heart, wishing I had cheering words that recounts progress, instead of sad report that I am constrained to give you on the situation of our dear nation”
Tambuwal who pulsed for a while because of over whelming cheers from the crowd, added that Nigeria has gone through thick and tin to bring about democracy in 1999 after brutal military rule that almost eroded our common humanity.
He added that since 1999 Nigeria has continued to pass through the diverse leadership with Obasanjo and Ya’Adua’s era being the most cherished.
Tambuwal further stressed that, though, Jonathan’s regime from 2011 was relatively fair but they took on him for allowing massive killings of Nigerians without any measure in sight to stop it. And they are also took on him for allowing unprecedented corruption.
“Through those years, the forces of geniune change gravitated and by 2015, merged to ensure a transition of power that Nigerians hoped would herald a new order of true democracy under an atmosphere of justice, peace, equity and rule of law. The leaders of that coalition represented and symbolized the aspiration of Nigerians for progress and prosperity under one united, indivisible nation.
“As the Speaker of the House of Representatives then, I left my comfort zone to be involved in the struggle for enthronement of purposeful leadership for the citizens of our dear country.
“Now, almost four years into what ought to be a new order as desired and elected by Nigerians,
“Sadly, the nation is going through the most difficult and precarious times, since the Civil War, with ethno, religious and regional distrust at its highest ebb.”.
While fuming that rather than providing noticeable solutions to the challenges created by the glaring brazen inequity in capacity and distribution of appointments/ projects and lack of statemanship in responding to national issues amongst other reasons that has aggravated the national anomaly, the President Muhammadu Buhari led government continues to blame past leaders for his failures.
Tambuwal who added that he has consulted far and wide despite pressure from locals on how APC has failed, come to the conclusion that the inequity and bad governence is worrisome.
“It is because I am convinced that no nation can thrive while there is inequity and bad governance: because I am saddened by the fact that lethargy, incompetence and sustained denial of obvious leadership missteps have become major raw materials with which the Nigerian State is being run today.
“Because I am unable to feel at ease in the face of a progressively divided, and above all, because I am totally unable to reconcile myself to a national leadership that offers no redeeming moral beacons that I am here with you today: to announce withdrawal if my membership of the All Progressive Congress and return to the People’s Democratic Party”.
The governor fiurther divulged that PMB has not fulfil any of his cardinal camapin promises to Njgerains, adding that corruption under this government is on the rise, standard of living in Nigeria is at it lowest ebb and perceived enemies being targeted for fight against corruption.
Speaking earlier, both Muhammad Dangogo, Alhaji Abubakar Danfluti, Dr. Muazu Zabira as well as Isa Bajini Galadanchi and former Minister, Bello Suleiman Isa said Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara has no reason whatsoever to continue support the failed govsement of PMB.
On their part, Sokoto state deputy Youth Leader, Nafiyu Bello Basakwacce and the Women Leader, Hajiya Hadiza Abdullahi called on Njgerains to library themselves from the bondage of bad governance by voting out PMB come 2019.
They reminded Nigerians to note that the wife of the president was the first to warn Njgerains against voting PMB once again.
