Authorities of the Nigerian Army has said the force never conducted any mass burial at any point recently debunking reports making the round that the army conducted a secret mass burial of personnel killed by members of the Boko haram sect after an attack on their barrack in Bama, Borno state and Jilli in Yobe state.
The Director of Army Public Relations, (DAPR) Brigadier General Texas Chukwu made this known in a conversation with our correspondent.
Chukwu said no soldier is missing at the moment and the force is solidly on ground in Borno and Yobe.
He maintained that no gun truck was taken away from any military formations in the North east as officers of troops of Operation Lafiya Dole are very much on ground.
The army spokesperson had in an earlier statement said terrorist attack on Bama to cart away operational vehicles were repelled by troops saying that only an officer and a soldier sustained injury.
The DAPR further blamed Ahmad Salkida for emanation of different rumors and such fake reports of activities of the insurgents adding that even the army is still yet to come to terms with his sources of information.
He also said the Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lt General Tukur Buratai, visited all the states reported to have done secret mass burial after the report filled the air and nothing like that was seen.
According to Chukwu “there is nothing like mass burial, Chief of Army Staff was in maiduguri and journalist who were on ground followed us round and were asking where is mass burial they are talking about that I don’t know.
“Sometimes people will just write anything without confirming. Nothing like mass burial, even in Bama no soldier was killed and we are even surprised, I don’t know where they got the stories they are posting to be sincere.
“Nothing like mass burial. The soldiers they claimed ran away are very much on ground. Some journalist who went with us saw the soldiers, I don’t know where the problem started from but I think it is from Ahmad Salkida, I don’t know where he gets his information from. Nothing like mass burial.
No gun truck is missing. Even in Jilli, solders are occupying the ground as am speaking with you, nothing like soldiers missing and I don’t know where people are getting the information. Nothing happened”.
It will be recalled that reports recently had it that some troops of the Nigerian Army went missing following Boko Haram insurgents attacks on military bases in both Jilli in Yobe state and Bama in Borno state.
It was said that the military formations in both states couldn’t locate all displaced soldiers as well as recover three military gun trucks that went missing during the attack on the bases.
Twenty (20) soldiers were reported to be missing after the attack on Jilli army base by boko haram insurgents while hundred of soldiers including members of civilian Joint Task Force were also reported to be missing in an earlier attack by the insurgents in Bama.
The report further had it that the army secretly conducted a mass burial for the officers killed with just closed family members in attendance with several pictures of the mass mass burial to support the claims.
