It was a serene atmosphere at the exquisite Terra Kulture as the annual Lagos Art Auction brought the creme de la creme and visual art enthusiasts to appreciate and purchase the numerous pieces of art from the best Nigeria visual artists and sculptors.
The flagship event of the Terra Kulture & Mydrim Gallery TKMG Art Auction house, a collaboration of two Lagos-based art galleries, Terra Kulture and Mydrim Gallery returned for its ninth edition held in glam and style. The night was a Collector’s Preview & Cocktail night held a fortnight ago and for anyone that visited the Terra Kulture on the day, one would see the talents at display and appreciate the arts industry which had helped put the nation on the global map. Pieces of arts ranging from paintings, mixed media on platforms, sculptors, acrylic on canvas numbering seventy-five art works and more were laced at the lobby tastefully furnished with the ambience and cool music on the keyboard being performed by a performer.
Our correspondent was enthralled by different art designs particularly one named SUBLIMITY by John Ogbeka. Mr Ogbeka, a graduate of Fine Arts from Auchi Polyrechnic, Edo State, created an intricate design of mixed media on Plywood which showed different messages particularly that of the essence of womanhood. Speaking on the design, John noted that this was the second time his works would be on display by Terra Kulture M G.
Other works like Egudu-Jera & His Danger Pen by Mufu Onifade espouses the work of a pen pusher- journalist. The 2016 design was on an Acrylic on Canvas and it shows how talented Nigerians are and the need for more support from corporate bodies and government. Dance To Enchanting Songs, a six-foot etched work by the erudite Professor Bruce Onobrakpeya attracted onlookers as the beauty and intricacy was seen by all. And the pricing which is from thirteen million Naira also evoked curiosity.
The night also showed a new and emerging crop of collectors and art enthusiasts including Tokini Peterside, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Kunle Afolayan, Sonia Irabor, Abimbola Craig, Bolanle Olukanni, Afua Osei, Yasmine Belo-Osagie, Denola Grey, Ozinna Anumudu, amongst others.
Also present at the preview event were artists whose pieces will be up for auction – Kolade Oshinowo, Nse Abasi, M. Inyang, and Nzennaya Barry Ikechukwu – giving them a first-hand chance to persuade Art Collectors present to buy their pieces come auction night.
