Election Period Should Not Be Season Of Madness – Obaje

A presidential aspirant in the 2019 general election, Prof Yusufu Ameh Obaje, has called on Nigerians not to take election period as a season of madness.

In a statement he personally signed, Obaje said Nigerians must ensure the election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace and patriotic commitment.

“Certainly, there is absolutely no need for a political Armageddon and its resultant chaos and seasonal insanity over an election to choose servants and maids of the people,” Obaje said while calling on Nigerians to eschew bitterness and work for peace in the 2019 general elections.

Obaje said if elected, his leadership would guarantee massive political education that will ensure an understanding of elections as periods of demonstrating one’s sense of civic responsibility in an atmosphere of peace and patriotic commitment.

“Indeed, our time of elections have become our season of madness, where love is replaced by hatred; where peaceful coexistence is submitted by all kinds of violence; where justice gives way to injustice; where truth is overtaken by falsehood; where knowledge bows to illiteracy; where understanding surrenders to ignorance; where wisdom is overshadowed by irrationality,” he said.

According to Obaje, Nigeria’s elections have become a period where security degenerates into insecurity; where freedom is sacrificed for intolerance; where dialogue is exchanged for intrigues; where democratic mandate is driven out by commercial mandate and where patriotism is abandoned for gratiotism.

“We must change from that mentality now and work for the interest of our country, Nigeria,” Obaje added.
