Chairman, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria (AMLSN) University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) chapter, Mr. Ochapa Abraham has called for training and retraining of laboratory scientists in the country.
In an interview with LEADERSHIP in Abuja yesterday, during a five-day training exercise, organised for it members, Abraham noted that training and retraining of laboratory scientists in the country would enable them improve on effective service delivery to the people.
He noted that quality and standard were required to enable laboratory scientists carry out efficient and accurate services needed by patients in the hospitals.
The AMLSN chairman tasked federal government to implement policies that would give health workers the leverage to achieve excellence in their profession, just as he called for modern equipment and increased workforce in the hospitals for effective and efficient service delivery.
While calling on the various unions in the health sector to unite, Abraham noted that one of the major challenges bedeviling progress in the health sector is lack of unity and harmony among health workers.
He explained that the essence of the workshop was to sensitise laboratory scientist on the role of ISO 15 185 in driving laboratory conformity in the health sector.
Some participants at the workshop applauded the leadership of the association for organising the workshop, stating that the knowledge gained would be utilize in their laboratories with a view to enhance quality service delivery in the teaching hospital.
