There was reported reign of fear yesterday at Molai hospital along Damboa road in Maiduguri with patients and visitors fleeing different directions over rumoured Boko Haram invasion of the treatment centre.
A woman who was at the hospital to seek medical attention for her child told LEADERSHIP, that the problem began when some boys suspected to be members of the Civilian Joint Taskforce stormed the hospital premises to announce that the Boko Haram terrorists were heading towards the hospital from Damboa.
This she said made everybody in the hospital that morning to flee the hospital area, adding that she struggled to run from the scene with her four year old son despite being heavily pregnant.
“I went to the hospital this morning with my four year old son for a medical update of his troubling eyes. But few minutes after my arrival at the hospital, some boys came in to announce that Boko Haram terrorists were advancing towards the hospital. And this announcement created confusion as people didn’t even know the particular direction the terrorists were coming from.
“ So I managed to pull my son along with me out of the crowd despite my full blown pregnancy to a distance before we met “Keke Napep” that picked us . Some people we met along the road said the terrorists were actually some distance away from the hospital , adding that the terrorist took away vehicles and Keke Napep from people there,” the source said.
It would be recalled that Boko Haram terrorists had on several occasions attacked or attempted to attack the Molai hospital which is a centre for the treatment of leprosy, skin pox and other diseases. COCIN Eye Centre is also within the leprosy hospital. The Molai general area had also for several times experienced Boko Haram attacks with suicide bombers in the surrounding villages.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed multiple explosions at Kaleri area, outskirts of Maiduguri around 9: 53 pm Sunday night.
According to the agency’s zonal coordinator in Northeast, Abdulkadir Ibrahim in a statement in Maiduguri, five suicide bombers were killed in the explosion while three persons were wounded.
