The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO) has started upgrading all it manufacturing processes and transforming them into automation, in order to improve productivity.
Director general, Prof. Gloria Elemo, who disclosed this at an event to mark the official flag off of a working relationship between FIIRO and the Automation and Engineering Academy of Nigeria (AEA) in Lagos.
She noted that the importance of equipment automation in any process line cannot be overemphasised, adding that industries in the world over are going the way of automation in their industrial and production process with well over two million robots involved in various process lines in industries.
She recounted that the involvement of AEA in the automaton of the Kunu and Zobo drinks in 2017 at the Technology and Innovation Expo of 2017 in Abuja was the beginning of the relationship.
Expressing delight at the relationship between the two organisations, Elemo stressed that the relationship would among other things create gainful employments, improve Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP), help in joint patenting and proposal writing and many more.
In his response, managing director of Automation & Engineering Academy, Engr. Olawale Ikotun , reaffirmed his profound faith in the FIIRO/AEA relationship which would be used in localising fabrications that were imported into the country, thereby conserving the country’s foreign exchange.
