Nasarawa Govt Charges Journalists On Professionalism

The Nasarawa State government has tasked journalists to always stand for the truth and to adhere strictly to the ethics of their profession in the interest of peace and national development.

Governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura made the call in Lafia, yesterday during the launch of a book titled “Governor Al-Makura: Expanding The Frontiers of Democratic Governance in Nasarawa State.”

The book was written by the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council in honour of the governor.

Al-Makura, who was represented by the state deputy governor, Mr Silas Ali Agara commended the members of the chapel for writing a book on his achievements since assumption of office from 2011 to date.

“Let me appreciate the members of the Correspondent’s Chapel for packaging a book on my achievements towards impacting positively on the lives of the people of the state.

“I want to assure you of our continued support and cordial relationship in order to move the state forward.

“It is in view of this, that I urge you to always stand for the truth by adhering strictly to your professional ethnics in the interest of peace and development,” he said.

Earlier, the chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel Abubakar Suleiman, said that members of the union wrote the book as their modest way to celebrate Al-Makura salient strides in the past seven years.

“This book is therefore our eloquent testimonies that we are living witnesses to your many giant strides in the infrastructural development of Nasarawa State.

“Which includes construction of modern roads, provision of modern healthcare facilities, schools, markets, youth empowerment programme and provision of several Hilux trucks to security agencies.

“The other areas of achievements worthy of note have been in the land administration through the introduction of the Nasarawa Geographic Information System (NAGIS) among other laudable achievements,” he said.
