Around the world, people are marking the 20th anniversary of simultaneous US embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.

In Nairobi, Kenya, a prayer meeting was held to mark the day suicide bombers affiliated with al-Qaedakilled 224 people and injured close to 5,000.

The US said al-Qaeda was to blame for the attack and fired a number of missiles in Afghanistan and Sudan.

Al Jazeera talked to one of Nairobi’s survivors at the site of the bombing and he told us how others can rise above their personal tragedies and move on with their lives.
