Adejumo Joins Oyo Guber Race

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Professor Soji Adejumo, has joined the state’s Governorship race, urging the leadership of the party to ensure that a strong character emerges as the successor of the incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Adejumo , a former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) spoke at the state party secretariat during his formal declaration of his intention to contest the 2019 governorship election.
According to him, the governor would need a strong successor to build on the series of successes and achievements during his eight-year administration in the state.
He said the state can survive the nationwide economic downturn without relying on what he described as the monthly hand outs from the federal government.
Adejumo said, “It is often said that we don’t need strong individuals but strong institutions to ensure the survival of the country. While this is true to some extent, we also need strong individuals along with the institutions to work.”
The APC governorship aspirant said he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by choice in 2016, adding that he was the best person to take over from the incumbent governor in 2019.
“Governor Abiola Ajimobi needs somebody with strong character to succeed him. Oyo State can survive by electing a determined and dedicated successor to the governor. Such a person must be bold and intelligent, he said.
“The two of us may not do things the same way, given the fact that Governor Ajimobi and i are from different backgrounds.
He came from the oil and gas sector, while I was from the education and agriculture sector.’’

Responding, the state APC chairman, Chief Akin Oke, attested to the quality of the character of Professor Adejumo, noting that he was aware of the contributions of the governorship aspirant to the present administration in the state.
