Lagos Health Insurance Scheme Begins Soon



Lagos State Government on Thursday said plans have been concluded to commence the implementation of its long anticipated health Insurance scheme before the end of the last quarter of the year.

The General Manager, the Lagos State Health Management Agency, LASHMA, Dr. Peju Adenusi, disclosed this at the Lagos State Media and Communications Healthcare Financing Training, held at in Lagos.

She said, “Lagos health scheme is the scheme that has been designed to provide quality health care services, equity of health care services, which means that, regardless of who you are, your social status or educational status, you have access to quality healthcare”.

According to her, it is a great opportunity for people to come together in solidarity to provide quality health for the citizens, adding that they are talking about Universal Health Coverage, and the Lagos State Health Scheme is a tool to achieving these in Lagos state.

“A lot of works has been done to ensure that when the scheme commence, the people indeed, all residents of Lagos state have access to quality healthcare services.”

She implored all resident of the state to support the initiative, saying, “We all have a role to play, everyone is an enrolee, because it is a mandatory health scheme. As long as you reside in Lagos state, you are automatically potential enrolee into this scheme”.

Adenusi noted that the Lagos State Health Fund, (LASHEF), will served as a basket of fund from several sources for the provision of health care services for the enrolled.

She said, “This is a scheme that come at N40, 000 for a family of six and broken down gives you less than N7, 000 per person per year for a benefit package that take care of the most common primary Healthcare problems in the state.’’

Adenusi pointed out that every civil servant in Lagos was entitled to 75 percent subsidy from the Lagos state government, saying the package will address the daily challenges that people encounter.
