National Population Commission (NPC) has said the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics record, will strength the country development.

The chairman of the commission, Eze Duruiheoma, SAN, stated this yesterday in commemoration of 2018 Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Day Celebration with the theme: ‘Promoting Innovative Universal Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System For Good Governance and Better Lives,’ in Abuja.

Duruiheoma, in his address, said civil registration and vital statistics, can play the overall planning and development of the continent.

“There is no doubt that this new phase in vital registration and data gathering effort requires the acquisition and mobilisation of additional human, technical and financial resources. Massive sensitisation of the people is also required to ensure the success of the new paradigm.

“It is evident that much still needs to be done in the area of data gathering in Nigeria to help drive the process of effective and efficient management of resources,” he said.

He also appealed to all Nigerians to ensure that they register every single birth and death that in their families at the registration centers nearest to them, and obtain their certificates to enhance effective planning and policy implementations in the country, for the overall benefit of all the citizens.

He noted that the strength and advancement of any nation are contingent on the health and efficient management of its population
