The Kaduna State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded a suspected kidnapper and member of a gang, Shehu Usman, of middle age in the state.

Usman, 25, was identified by one of the victims of the gang’s nefarious acts at the railway station, Rigachikun in Igabi local government area on August 4, 2018 following an alarm raised by the victim.

Addressing newsmen while parading the suspect, the Commandant of NSCDC, Alhaji Modu Bunu said, a statement by the victim indicated that he, along with his relations (names withheld) were kidnapped by Usman’s gang on February 21, 2018 at about 8.48pm around Birnin-Yero near Jaji.

According to Bunu, the victim’s statement also indicated that the abductees were not released until a ransom of over N1million was paid to their abductors.

Bunu mentioned that investigation revealed that Usman’s accomplices, who are currently at large, appeared in military camouflage to carry out the nefarious act; adding that a local rifle and other incriminating items were recovered at the kidnapper’s residence.

The suspect, Usman, however admitted that he took water to the abductees while in captivity but noted that he was not aware they were kidnapped. “I was only asked to give them water. I never knew they were kidnapped,” he said.

While he disclosed that he was given only N2, 000 from the deal, he regretted his actions; advising others to desist and do something meaningful with their lives.

He also disclosed that one of the gang members bought a house with the ransom collected from the family of the victims.

The NSCDC boss urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspected movements, persons and acts to security agencies for appropriate actions.
