Katsina: 5 Killed, 1 Injured In Auto-crash

No fewer than five persons died on the spot yesterday in an early morning road  accident involving the acting head of Kurfi local government in Katsina State, Lawal Mohammed Danja and five others at Yantumaki, Danmusa local government area of the state.

Four of the deceased including Danja, who was said to be driving the car which had a head-on collision with another vehicle, were on their way to the state capital, Katsina for the inauguration of the 34 newly appointed transition committee chairmen by Governor Aminu Bello Masari.

The three passengers in Danja’s vehicle died in the accident while the Head of Corporate Affairs, Nigerian Metrological Services (Nimet), Muntari Yusuf Ibrahim, narrowly escaped death with multiple fractures in the other vehicle.

The accident was said to have occurred as the vehicle driven by Danja, who was until his death the Head of Administration of Kurfi LG, was  about  to overtake another vehicle ran into Ibrahim’s vehicle in the process.

A family relation of Ibrahim, who pleaded anonymity, told LEADERSHIP that his driver, simply identified as Rabe, alias Shamaki Sarkin, in his early 50s however died in the accident and was buried yesterday morning according to Islamic rites. The source also disclosed that Ibrahim, Katsina – born Nimet top official, had been rushed to an Abuja hospital for further medical attention.

However, findings revealed that the bodies of the other deceased were conveyed to their community in Danja local government area of the state for burial.

When contacted, the spokesman of the state command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Abdullahi Danladi Ibrahim, confirmed the incident on phone.

Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Masari has sworn in the transition committee of the 34 local government councils across the state and promised to release the list of councilors to assist them in the discharge of their duties .

Masari,however, said the transition committee chairmen inherited a near bankrupt local government system, adding that they need to be prudent and accountable in the management of resources.
