NAF Destroys Bandits’ Hideout In Zamfara



Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has successfully destroyed three armed bandits’ locations in Zamfara state.

A statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said the Air Task Force for the ‘Operation Duran Mikiya’ destroyed armed bandits’ hideouts in Sububu forest,Birnin Magaji and Rugu forest all in Zamfara state.

He noted that the attack was initiated following credible intelligence that armed bandits were using some parts of Rugu forest as a logistics staging area for the supply of arms and ammunition.

  He explained that the ‘Operation Diran Mikiya’ was launched on July 31, 2018 to destroy armed bandits hideouts  in order to halt the senseless killings ,cattle rustling and other criminal activities in the Northwest.

  ‘Operation Diran Mikiya’ which commenced on 31 July 2018, is an intensive air operation aimed at locating and neutralizing armed bandits with a view to stopping killings, cattle rustling and other criminal activities in the Northwest,” he said

Ibikunle said the coordinated attack which lasted for three days began on  August 9 to August 11 following a discovery of bandits’ hideouts within the forests.

He said on  August 9, the NAF special Forces carried out a clearance operation involving a suspected armed bandits camp on the outskirts of Galadi in the Northwest of Zamfara and successfully neutralized them.

He added that  on August 10, a combat helicopter on a reconnaissance mission spotted armed bandits on motorcycles on a location in Birnin Magaji on the Eastern part of Zamfara and neutralized them successfully.

In a related development, he said  the NAF ATF on August 11, successfully destroyed bandits hideout at Rugu forest.

“ The mission was initiated based on credible intelligence that a location on the fringes of Rugu Forest near Ajia, in the Eastern part of Zamfara State was being used by the bandits as a logistics staging area for the supply of arms and ammunition,” he said.

He therefore, appealed to the general public to provide useful information to facilitate the success of the operation.
