MEPN Set To Tackle Problem Of Migration



Obviously not amused by unnecessary suffering and deaths of young Nigerians who are misled into irregularly migrating to Europe, the Migration Enlightenment Project Nigeria (MEPN), a diaspora initiative yesterday said plans are afoot to converge on Abuja for a ‘Stakeholders’ Roundtable Dialogue on Migration’.

A ccording to a statement signed yesterday by Kenneth Gbandi and Femi Awoniyi – co-directors of the MEPN, said there will be series of consultation with civil society, in Abuja on Friday, adding that the programme is part of the activities of the MEPN, a public awareness campaign promoting safe migration in Nigeria.

They said,’’ The Stakeholders’ Roundtable Dialogue brings together youths, students, parents and multipliers, such as educationists, journalists, artists and religious leaders, among others, to exchange ideas and experiences on the issue.

‘’The Dialogue series seeks to engender a better understanding of the many sides of migration with the ultimate objective of putting an end to the unnecessary suffering and deaths of young Nigerians who are misled into irregularly migrating to Europe.”

Among those who will speak at the event are Hon. Rita Orji, chairperson of the Diaspora Committee at the Federal House of Representatives; Dr Osoka Agu, MD/CEO of Biosec Solutions; and Dr Agu Collins Agu, Director ITIS at the National Information Technology Development Agency.

Expected to deliver an address as well is Comrade Egenti Chimuanya Kelvin, Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State, while representatives of youth organisations, such as the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), will also speak at the event.

Hon. Kenneth Gbandi, who is also the Director of the African German Information Centre and Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe, will make a presentation on the heavy costs of irregular migration to Nigeria
