Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, yesterday enumerated the potentials of the International Agricultural Technology Exhibition and Conference holding in the state capital, Osogbo in November to ambassadors and high commissioners in Nigeria. The event tagged ‘Agrictech Nigeria Osun 2018’ is being organised by the state government, Fesco Agalu Enterprises Nigeria Limited, Kenes Exhibition and Sifax Group of Companies. Agrictech is expected to attract 500,000 participants in over 136 countries around the world and generate transactions worth $1.2billion.
Speaking at a strategic meeting in Abuja yesterday, Governor Aregbesola said Agrictech Nigeria Osun 2018 with the theme: ‘‘Transformation of Nigerian Agricture Through Sustainable Technological Innovation’’ came at a time Nigeria is diversifying its economy. He urged the countries to showcase and exhibit their rich agricultural technology and potentials at the event, while calling on agricultural and allied companies in the countries to use the event to exhibit and market their products. The governor, who was represented at the event by the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security, Osun state, Mr Kunle Ige, said the state is organising the show to enlighten the world about its potentials. He also said Agrictech Nigeria Osun 2018 will generate employment for Nigerians and encourage many people to go into agriculture as new equipment that can aid agricultural practice will be on display at the event.
The governor said: ‘‘Nigeria is a land of abundant opportunities, the largest market economy in Africa with a popular of about 200 million people, 45 million people are into farming, both small holders and commercial farming. These farmers need your countries agricultural technologies and innovations to increase their agricultural productions. Director, International Trade and Investment Division of Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Adekunle Ogunsanya, also said the federal government would do everything possible to provide an enabling environment for any state or private sector in Nigeria investing in agriculture. General manager, Business Development Strategy, SIFAX Group of Companies, Mr Saheed Lasisi said the event will open up Nigeria’s economy and motivate many Nigerians to take into agriculture.
