As part of efforts to support good governance in Nigeria, a group under the aegis of GOGAN-Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria has pledge its commitment to identify with good leaders in Nigeria to bring development.
Speaking on the feature plans of the organisation, the immediate past deputy speaker of Imo state House of Assembly, now the executive secretary of GOGAN, Hon. Pharmacist Donatus Ozoemena in a chat with Journalists over the weekend said that, the non-governmental organisation was focusing on good governance in Nigeria.
According to him, the 2019 general elections is critical. The main focus of the group is to identify and support leaders with good virtue for overall interest of the masses.
“Passionately, GOGAN choose to identify with president Mohammed Buhari due to his quality leadership, fighting corruption ,rise in GDP among other achievements is a sign of good leadership which the group emulates. Likes him to biblical moses sent by God to salvage the economy of the nation.
‘Though, the organisation was not establish only to support Buhari’s reelection come 2019, but to identifies with good leaders in Nigeria. Given buhari’s pedigree and the fact that he has touched lives, provide the needed infrastructure which is key to development, the group is fully in support of his reelection,’ Ozoemena said.
‘The non-governmental organisation has gone beyond merely supporting leaders in elections, but also embarking on empowerment programme by impacting knowledge on the people. The recent introduction of an essay competition was to create awareness, sensitizes the masses, and promote knowledge in our society,’ Pharmacist Ozoemena said.
‘The intention was to strengthen knowledge, instill morality and positively affect the people. These would go down to compliment the saying, ‘knowledge is power,’ he added.
As a pharmacist, Ozoemena said he uses the office to campaign against cancer. He urges the people especially those above 40 years to always check their PSA, to know the state of their health against cancer disease.
Reacting to issue of vote buying during elections, Ozoemena said, ‘vote buying is an insult on Nigerians.’ The organisation urges electorate to live up to expectation by using their PVCs to select the right leaders for good governance which is the hallmark of GOGAN. He blamed the cause to ignorance and poverty which reigns supreme on people’s mind as victims.
