Nasarawa North-Senatorial District To Produce Next Governor

Published

Unless something comes up to discourage the governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, from making known to the chieftains of the APC, his party, his choice of person that he wishes to have as his successor, the governor would do so today.
According to very competent sources in the seat of power in the state, the governor had, after due consultation with mainly his close political allies within and out of government, decided to back the person he deems best to govern the state after him.
Our next governor will come from the Northern Senatorial District, one of the sources said adding, “He is a technocrat, exposed and decent fellow who has the good business acumen needed to transform our state.”

However, while the governor and his supporters are busy celebrating their choice of aspirant, a person who has aspired for the position in the past; other aspirants, notably from Keffi, LGA in the Western Senatorial District, and emirs in the state, who have always wielded political influences, were not at par with the governor and his choice aspirant.
In an interview, one of the aspirants from Keffi said, he and his colleagues would resist any attempt by Al-makura to unduly favour any aspirant.
We have heard that the governor has an unpopular person for the governorship primary election, and he wants to employ crooked means to force him on us, we will resist”, said the aspirant.
He said that though the governor’s choice is an associate of a very successful businessman in Africa that does not mean we should surrender our state to persons who don’t understand the socio-economic issues in our state.
Checks have also revealed that prominent chiefs and emirs in the state, who exert enormous influence over politicians and governance, were at logger heads with Al-Makura, a situation that could lead to crisis in the APC and cause defection of members to other parties, especially the APGA, led by former minister of Information, Labaran Maku, in the state.
In the meantime, rumors have circulated Lafia, the state capital, that the governor’s choice from Akwanga LGA, has purchased houses in Abuja and cars for some very close allies of the governor.
