The Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yussuff, has said despite his alienation by the leadership of All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Osun State he was not planning to leave the party.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after meeting his supporters at his campaign office in Osogbo at the weekend, Yussuff reinstated his commitment to ensure victory for the party at the September 22 governorship election in the state.
Yussuff who said he could however not guarantee victory for the party disclosed that many of those that are being allegedly alienated by the leadership of the party in the state are grassroots politicians, many of whom have made sacrifice for the party.
The member, representing Osogbo/Olorunda/Orolu/Irepodun federal constituency at the green chamber while reacting to the circumstances that surrounded the gubernatorial primary election of the party in Osun said he was not aware of any appeal committee formed to hear the grievances of aggrieved aspirants.
He said, “we are in the position to support the APC and not about the candidate. I thank all my supporters who stood despite the persecution during and after the primary. We would do our best to ensure that APC wins the coming election in this state.
“Nigerians should be aware that a lot of party chieftains are being alienated today. I’m not guaranteeing any party. But, we hope that party member will put what happened in the primary behind and work for the victory of the party.’’
On why he has not officially congratulated the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, Yussuff said “I am not in the position to congratulate anybody. When I became Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, nobody in the party or government in the state congratulated me.’’
