The Inter-Party Advisory Council , (IPAC) Niger State has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to as a matter of urgency improve the condition of the commission’s offices in the local government areas in the state..
The position of IPAC was made known at the weekend by the organisation’s secretary, Mohammed Bello Maikujeri, after a tour of the twenty five local government areas of the state, noting that the situation in the INEC offices at the LGAs in the state was appalling and insecure..
He specifically noted that “in Gurara local government the situation is worse because the INEC officials in the area have no office accommodation, and that made them to be staying a primary school building that is also dilapidated, this from the account we received could make them vulnerable to attacks by thugs”.
Maikujeri explained that considering the importance of the INEC offices at the local government to free and fair election , it will not be right that urgent steps are not taken to ensure that INEC offices at that level are conducive and secured.
Meanwhile, the secretary stated that the IPAC in Niger State used the opportunity of the tour to educate the people on the need to go and collect their Permanent Voters Cards and abide by the rules of the game in order not to compromise their franchise.
