NEMA Puts Borno Community On Red Alert Over Burst Pipe

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has on Sunday alerted communities living around Bale kayamla village in Konduga local government area to remain vigilant following alleged vandalisation of one of the Alau Dam pipe suspected to have been carried out by the boko haram terrorists group.

The Alau Dam which was one of the fishing points in Borno State before the boko haram crisis was previously taken over by the terrorists thereby halting the fishing activities before the Nigerian Military routed the insurgents out of the area.

A statement issued in Maiduguri by the zonal coordinator NEMA, Bashir Idris Garga, said an emergency response team comprising NEMA and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) embarked on an on- the -spot assessment to ascertain the situation.

Mr Garga said, “Following a distressed call on  alleged vandalisation of one of the Alau Dam pipe, an emergency response team which comprises NEMA and SEMA embarked on an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the situation. Though the ERT could not gain access to where the incident occured.

“Based on the information gathered on the field, it was one of the dyke close to one of the deserted communities, Bale kayamla, that was washed away creating no threat to other communities. The Alau Dam burst is suspected to be the handiwork of sabotage by insurgents as they were suspected to have destroyed the embarkments meant to control the over flow.

“Members of communities in the area have been urged to be vigilant and be on alert,”he warned.
