Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has applauded the victorious John Utaka Foundation Football Team for winning the 2018 SATUC World Cup in Bulgaria.
The Minna based Utaka Foundation team represented Nigeria at the just concluded 2018 SATUC World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria and thrashed fellow African opponents, Liberia 4-0 in the final to emerge the winner of the second edition of the tournament organized for the underprivileged kids within the age of 16 years.
The Nigerian team emerged champion out of the16 countries from Europe, Asia and Africa that participated in the global football competition, and Governor Bello was excited with the team’s performance which did not lose a match to win the competition.
The Nigerian team whitewashed Syria 7-1 in the first match, thrashed Morocco 4-2 in the second match, mauled Cameroon 7-0 in the quarterfinal match, piped hosts Bulgaria1-0 in the semifinal and also smashed Liberia 4-0 in the final to win the Cup.
The Niger State Governor who is presently out of the country sent his Commissioner for Sports Development in the state Honourable Emmanuel Danjuma Duza to officially welcome the victorious team at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja last week Wednesday.
At the mini reception at the Abuja Airport speaking on behalf of Governor Bello, Honourable Duza stated, “I am standing here on behalf of my boss, Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State who sent me to receive this victorious team that went to Bulgaria and conquered all oppositions to emerge Champions of the world.
“Niger State is proud of this team, and Nigeria is proud of the team too for making us proud. This victorious team will surely be honoured and celebrated when my boss, Governor Abubakar Bello is back from abroad. We will encourage and also motivate them more. This is the first time Nigeria is participating in the tournament and the team won its second edition.
“On behalf of my Governor I am commending the initiatives and commitment of foundation owner John Utaka who has been contributing his own quota through sports to the development of football in the state. Honestly John Utaka has been a marvelous person. If others can emulate him Nigeria would be a better place interns of sporting activities”, the Commissioner disclosed.
