The management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), has urged its customers to avoid illegal connections during the festive season and embrace safety at all time.
Head, Brands and Communications Strategy of the company, Mrs Angel Olarenwaju, made the appeal in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos .
According to Olarenwaju, as a responsible corporate citizen, IBEDC implores our customers and the public during and after the holiday season to put the all safety tips into practice even as we celebrate the Eid.
The company warned against the habit of tapping electrical power directly from Low Tension (LT) lines to power light bulbs during parties or Community carnivals should stop.
She advised customers to always assume that all overhead wires are energised at lethal voltages, and no one should assume that a wire is safe to touch even if it is down or appears to be insulated.
“ Our customers are advised not to touch any fallen overhead powerlines. Visit the nearest office or call to report fallen electrical lines,’’ she advised.
She urged all customers to switch off all electrical appliances and unplug from the mains when not in use and when leaving the house, adding that open air cooking especially during the season should not be done close to or under any power (low and high tension) line.
She also reminded them that water is a conductor of electricity, and no one should handle powered electrical appliances, switches, sockets and electrical connections with wet hands.
