The federal government has been urged to urgently consider the rehabilitation of the two kilometres Ajaokuta transit road.
The nationwide president of Igala Youths, Prince Enema Momoh made this call, Wednesday, in Ajaokuta, when he led a delegation of youth leaders from Kogi State to inspect the state of the road.
Prince Momoh maintained that this appeal has become necessary, in view of the fact that the road has completely broken down. He explained the road is too economically strategic to be ignored for so long period of time.
His word: “It is getting to nearly a decade since this road has remained in this deplorable state. It is regrettable that a road as strategic as this one connecting Benue State and the entire South East be ignored for this long.
“My appeal is that the federal government should direct the Federal Ministry Works, Power and Housing to commence work on the road immediately. I mean, we are talking about two kilometres road.
“The abandonment of this road is taking its toll on commuters coming from Benue State and South East in wear and tears on vehicles, and most regrettably, that portion of the road has become a den for kidnappers and armed robbers, who daily make life miserable for commuters.”
It could be recalled that the road, the only access road for people traveling from Benue State and South East through Kogi State and the only road linking Kogi East to the state capital Lokoja, has been in the current state for almost a decade without any tangible government attention.
The resultant security problem it created led to the citing of several police, civil defence and army check points on the two kilometres portion of the road.
