Borno, WHO Partner Over Outbreak Of Diarrhea In IDPs Camps

The Borno State government with support from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has taken proactive steps to forestall the outbreak of diseases such as acute diarrhea in some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state.

According to the WHO communication officer for Northeast, Dr Chima Onuekwe, the proactive step is in response to a report from an IDPs camp in the state.

He said, that health officials from both the Borno State government and WHO have embarked on house to house search for the disease in the camps in addition to the sensitisation of the people on preventive measures against the disease.

Dr Onuekwe disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri while giving update to newsmen on the steps taken by the Borno State government and WHO to forestall outbreak of seasonal diseases in Borno State.

Onuekwe said, “WHO supports Borno to take proactive steps to forestall disease outbreaks. To forestall outbreaks of seasonal diseases especially cholera, WHO is supporting Borno State government to implement a house to house search for acute watery diarrhea, distribute Aquatabs and sensitise the public on preventive behaviours against cholera.

“’The activity is centred in Madinatu,  Elmiskin and surrounding camps for Internally Displaced Persons where suspected  cases of acute watery diarrhea have been reported in the past weeks.”
