Aretha Franklin, singer, died August 16, 2018. And on Tuesday morning her golden casket was carried into the Charles H Wright Museum for African American History, where she was laid in repose surrounded by clouds of pink and purple roses.

Clothed in a red dress, with red stilettos and red lipstick, she was, as one mourner told AP.Sabrina Owens, Franklin’s niece, said that her dress – with its ornamental elements and sheer netting fabric – was reminiscent of an outfit she would wear onstage and “something she would have selected for herself”.

Crowds had gathered since Sunday evening to be able to file into the museum – the place where Rosa Parks laid in repose for two days, after becoming the only woman to ever lie in state, in Washington DC.

According to telegraph news,  a tribute concert honoring Franklin’s life will be held on Thursday evening, before her funeral at the Greater Grace Temple on Friday, where Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson are among stars expected to perform.
